This plan of an ideal garden reflects the great influence which English garden design had in Europe at the end of the 18th and early years of the 19th centuries, with its serpentine rills and irregular plan. The inscription on the drawing indicates that it was done as an assignment given by Ferdinand Bonsignore, professor at the Imperial Academy of Turin.  Bonsignore (Turin 1760-1843) studied in Turin and then in Rome and Florence.  In 1803 he was appointed professor of architecture in Turin. Prior to this appointment, in 1801, he designed a fireworks display in honor of Napoleon’s visit.
