We are grateful to Saskia van Altena for pointing out that this drawing most probably formed part of a series with another by Diepenbeeck, with the same dimensions and numberings, formerly in the collection of Professor Egbert Haverkamp-Begemann (sold in these Rooms, 31 January 2018, lot 255). She also suggests that the drawings may have been made as designs for tapestries.
