This still life by Jacob Foppens van Es is unusual in its extreme simplicity. IThe artist has focused on an isolated bunch of grapes, free from the vast myriad of other colourful fruits and objects so often found in his recognised corpus. Two comparable works, showing a single bunch of grapes coupled with walnuts, are in the National Gallery of Prague and the Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, respectively.1
