Nach Alessandro Algardi (Bologna 1598 - 1654 Rom)
Italien, 17./ 18. Jh.
Madonna mit Kind
Acquired at Christie's, London, circa 2005
The model was first attributed to Alessandro Algardi and dated to circa 1650 by Wittkower in 1928, which despite the fact that there is no documentation, is now generally accepted. Montagu notes that at the time Algardi was working on a similar Madonna and Child on the altar of S.Nicola da Tolentino, emphasising that this was a period when his 'sense of three dimensional form and ability to organize detail were at their height'.
