Ex. Gene Meieran Collection

Gem crystals are typically assessed for their color, form, condition, luster, and provenance. The beryl species, which includes aquamarine, heliodor, emerald and morganite, among others, is prized by collectors for its combination of beauty and durability.

Nicknamed "The Dragonfly Wing," this exceptional bicolor beryl was once in the collection of former Fairchild Semiconductor researcher and Intel Corporation executive Dr. Eugene ("Gene") Meieran, the most famous contemporary American gem crystal collector. This is an exceptional quality heliodor that shades to aquamarine at its termination, exhibiting pristine condition, nearly transparent water clear gem clarity, and a complex termination geometry. The entire crystal is eye-clean save for a single fluid inclusion perfectly positioned at the top and center of the crystal and which resembles the wing of a dragonfly or the seed of a sycamore tree.

This specimen was discovered in the late 1990s at Duas Barras near Padre Paraíso in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and is among the finest examples of beryl from this locality.
