Auction House. Around 2050.
An Auction curated by machines is taking place in front of a crowd of mannequins which are trying to buy human nature, at first. They’re bidding to get “The Raft of the Medusa”, a romantic Masterpiece from Théodore Géricault. Le Radeau de la Méduse - original title - created a huge scandal at the time of his creation, getting controversial opinions since its rough facts connected to cannibalism, homicide and abomination of nature.
Bonapace was interested in comparing that controversial and modern theme to the actual debate about AI, artistic creation processes and artifacts between nature and machines.
The man-nature relationship has always been ambiguous, nature being seen as both a provider and an enemy. The title itself is about reminding us that time passes surprisingly quickly and everything we know in nature has an end.
Is it something we can say about machinery?
Whats physical? What is digital? Whats exactly AI or generative imagery related to physical Art? How can we evaluate or judge if its impact will be positive or negative in longer times?
These are only a few fascinating insights that the Author wants to leave to viewers.
