Helena Sarin

The artist.

Helena Sarin, lives and works in New Jersey. She is a visual artist, software engineer and maker (she calls herself an engineering artist) who has always worked with cutting-edge technologies for tech companies. Having explored in her career more traditional mediums like watercolor, pastel and photography; art and software ran as parallel tracks in her life, all her art being analog, until she discovered GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks). Since then generative models became her primary medium - creating at the intersection of technology and art elevated her artistic voice.

Happiness Is Being Understood is a very personal work in both its narrative, composition and the palette. Like many of Sarin’s works it carries elements of the Russian constructivism in its geometric collage-like composition and the use of the primary colors of red, and black. The artwork composition highlights the contradictions that exist within her personality, as being both soft and approachable, yet also tough and resilient. By representing these contradictions through a juxtaposition of geometric and organic elements, Sarin suggests that the woman's true essence is complex and multifaceted. She also suggests that happiness is ultimately about being appreciated for who you unapologetically are, even in contradictions.

The image was created using the bespoke sequence of intentional visual and text prompts as the guidance to the AI models generative process including the models trained on the artist’ own artwork. The use of AI models allowed her to compress the visual information into a single still images and to elevate her artistic expression.
