Horseshoe-back low armchairs such as the present lot are very rare, as they can be specifically used by children or as part of a sedan chair. Compare a closely related zitan horseshoe-back low armchair in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Mingqing gongting jia ju er shi si jiang, Beijing, 2006, p.238, fig.396

此類矮圈椅存世不多，一般有兩種功用，一為富貴人家孩童使用，亦可用於轎中，因此又稱「轎椅」，是明式家具中比較別緻的一類。參看北京故宮博物院藏一件明代紫檀藤心矮圈椅，《明清宮廷家具二十四講：上》，北京，2006年，頁238，圖396。
