Anna Hyatt Huntington was one of the most successful American sculptors of her generation, with a corpus of work depicting domesticated and wild animals. The present work is one of her most famous, having been created in 1902 and exhibited multiple times. Her animal bronzes are reminiscent of the French naturalist tradition. Huntington creates a sense of narrative in her animal sculptures, the present works’ horses are wrapped in a blanket while resting.
