Jeffrey Hantover is a New York City based writer. His novel, The Jewel Trader of Pegu, published by William Morrow in 2008 was a Barnes & Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection, Borders “Original Voices” selection, and the Independent Book Sellers BookSense pick. His latest novels published in 2023 are The Three Deaths of Giovanni Fumiani and The Forenoon Bride. His poetry and short fiction have appeared in various literary journals. He lived for a dozen years in Hong Kong where he wrote for Asian publications on art, culture, food, and travel with articles that ranged from Bruce Lee and architectural preservation in Singapore to contemporary life in Vietnam and the best fried chicken in Kuala Lumpur. He wrote the text for Uncorked Soul: Contemporary Art from Vietnam, the first major exhibition of contemporary Vietnamese painting outside Vietnam. He was a 2010 summer fellow at the Norman Mailer Writers Colony. Prior to devoting himself full time to writing, he taught sociology at Vanderbilt University and held senior management positions in labor rights for Gap in Asia and the U.S. and was the first executive director of the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children.  He is a graduate of Harvard College, attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and received a Masters in Sociology of Education and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago.
