''Sculpture, which I did not study under anyone else but my father, and which comes naturally to me, is my favourite medium.''

THE ARTIST, AS QUOTED IN 'AFRICA'S LEADING MODERN SCULPTOR', NEGRO DIGEST, DECEMBER 1965

The 'Bureau de Paris Batignolles' stamp suggests the present lot was included in the artist’s October 1952 exhibition at Galerie Palmes, 3 Place Saint-Sulpice, opened by African American writer and Présence Africaine contributor Richard Wright (1908-1960).
