Ben Enwonwu

Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner c.1978

One of Enwonwu's best-known works, The Drummer was originally commissioned for the facade of the NET Building, one of Nigeria's first skyscrapers and home to the state-owned Nigerian External Communications company on the Marina, Lagos. Later known as NITEL Tower and now NECOM House, the 32-story building was completed in 1979, and was the tallest in West Africa at the time of completion.
