Designs for Five Playing Cards
(i) signed PATRICK HERON, titled, dated OCTOBER 29th 1976, and inscribed (on the reverse); (ii) signed Terry Frost (on the reverse) (iii) signed John Hoyland (on the reverse); (iv) signed alan davie, dated oct 76 and inscribed (lower right)
(i) gouache and watercolour on paper; (ii) collage and pencil on card; (iii) oil on paper; (iv) watercolour and ink on paper; (v) wash, pen and ink and pencil on card
unframed (largest) (folded sheet): 20.5 by 16cm.; 8 by 6¼in.
framed (each): 31 by 25cm.; 12¼ by 10in.

Acquired by the family of the present owners circa 1976 and thence by descent
The designs were created in 1976 by JPS gallery but they were published in 1979 by Andrew Jones Art, London with 56 contributing artists including Sandra Blow, Patrick Caulfield, Terry Frost, Howard Hodgkin, David Hockney and Joe Tilson. The artists made various studies for different card options and only one of each chosen.
