Stylistic comparison can be noted to four caryatids attributed to Cornelis II Floris, from the former Sacrament Tower of the Celestine Convent in Heverlee, Belgium, now in the M Leuven museum (inv.nos. B/VI/314, B/VI/244, B/VI/245, B/VI/246); the figures of St Mark and St Matthew are depicted with small accompanying figures, alike the present sculpture which is accompanied by a figure of a Faun to his left side.


The present alabaster Bacchus was sold in Sotheby's Palm Beach, 30 May 1980, lot 219 together with an alabaster figure of an old man with a putto, and described as an allegories of Autumn and Winter.
