Dated 1611, the present portrait depicts a blonde-haired eleven-year-old boy, fashionably dressed in a burgundy slashed doublet with a white ruff. Previously ascribed to the School of Frans Pourbus the Younger, this painting is now considered to be the work of his teacher, Otto van Veen, in whose workshop Sir Peter Paul Rubens also trained.
