This work is based on a widely-copied composition by Jacopo Amigoni today in the Maison d'Art, Lugano.¹ The image's tender pose and luminous palette were popular with eighteenth-century collector and Amigoni himself, as well as members of his circle, including Pompeo Batoni and Francesco Trevisani, produced many variants of the work.
