Aimé-Jules Dalou

Paris 1838 - 1902

A Nude Bather

signed DALOU, stamped with the Hébrard foundry mark and incised with an (8)

bronze

height: 13 ½ in.; 34.29 cm.

With Robert Bowman, London, 1996;

From whom acquired.

Dalou displayed a keen interest in capturing the female nude through sculpture and produced slight variations of this subject matter throughout his career. These works were typically executed for private collectors and it was not until after Dalou’s death in 1902 that the A. A. Hébrard Foundry began producing serialized casts such as this one, which is notable for the remarkably natural appearance of the eponymous bather.
