Le sac Artycapucines d'Ugo Rondinone, lancé en 2022, présente un motif arlequin - clin d'œil à son intérêt de longue date pour les clowns - créé par une broderie à la main de près de 15 000 petites perles sur le cuir du sac. Chaque losange de ce motif contient également des fleurs imprimées en 3D, inspirées des sculptures réalisées par Rondinone en 1988 en écho à celle du Monogram Louis Vuitton. La poignée est un arc-en-ciel translucide réalisé à la main - un autre motif visuel récurrent de l'artiste - conçu afin que ses couleurs soient "projetées" sur le rabat du sac lorsqu'il est en pleine lumière.
Signé par l'artiste sous le rabat, ce sac est présenté dans une iconique Boîte Chapeau Louis Vuitton en toile Monogram inspirée d’un design historique de la Maison. La Boîte Chapeau est également signée, en turquoise, par l'artiste.
Le produit net de la vente de ce lot Artycapucines sera reversé par le vendeur à John Giorno Foundation, choisie par l’artiste pour soutenir ses actions. Cette fondation soutient l'héritage du poète et artiste John Giorno (1936-2019), organise des conférences, des performances, des salons et des retraites à Manhattan, et accorde des bourses aux artistes, poètes et musiciens issus de la communauté LGBTQ+.
Ugo Rondinone’s Artycapucines, first released in 2022, features a harlequin pattern – a nod to his long-time interest in clowns – created by painstakingly hand-embroidering nearly 15,000 small beads to the bag’s leather body. Each diamond section of the design also contains 3D-printed flowers inspired by sculptures Rondinone produced in 1988 and reminiscent of those in the Louis Vuitton Monogram. The handle is a hand-crafted translucent rainbow – another of the artist’s long-term visual motifs – designed so that in bright light its colours are “projected” onto the bag’s flap.
The Ugo Rondinone Artycapucines bag, which is signed in pink by the artist under the flap, is presented in an accompanying Louis Vuitton Boîte Chapeau, a hat box in iconic Monogram canvas based on a historical design of the Maison. The Boîte Chapeau is also signed, in turquoise, by the artist.
The net sale proceeds of the sale of this Artycapucines lot will be remitted to the John Giorno Foundation, chosen by the artist to support its actions. This organization supports the legacy of the poet and artist John Giorno (1936-2019); hosts lectures, performances, salons, and retreats at its Manhattan base; and provides grants to LGBTQ+ artists, poets, and musicians.
