In August 1836, Calame completed a series of studies and drawings of the Lauterbrunnen valley. Painted from life, this work is remarkable for its atmospheric representation and the details of vegetation, rock formations and the mountain landscape. The painting is distinctive for its precise and realistic rendering of the valley’s natural beauty.
