Alessandro Magnasco, son of the painter Stefano Magnasco, was born in Genoa. He probably went to Milan in his youth, working there as a figure painter for several landscape artists such as the architectural artist Clemente Spera. He collaborated especially with Antonio Francesco Peruzzini, Magnasco painting the figures and Peruzzini the landscapes. This imaginary landscape is very close to other paintings known to have been collaborations between Magnasco and Peruzzi.
