each decorated in underglaze blue and applied with coloured cloisonné enamels and various thicknesses of gold wire on a speckled blue enamel ground, with butterflies among flowers and foliage, including field chrysanthemum (nogiku), hydrangea and peony, the smaller similarly decorated with further flowers including fringed pinks (nadeshiko) and grasses
