Count Robin de la Lanne Mirlees (1925-2012) was an author and former officer of arms at the College of Arms in London, providing the genealogy included within On Her Majesty's Secret Service. In recognition of this, Fleming based the character Sable Basilisk upon Mirlees and dedicated the novel to him.
