Denis Hamilton (1918-1988) was a close friend of Ian Fleming and the editor-in-chief and chairman of the Times. This later printing of Casino Royale is inscribed "To C.D. from Ian", the nickname being from his full name, Charles Denis Hamilton. The two men worked as journalists at Kemsley Newspapers and Fleming contributed to the Sunday Times throughout Hamilton’s tenure as editor. Hamilton advised Fleming on a number of his books. Fleming gave Hamilton a signed first edition of every book of the James Bond series.
