Bond Strikes Camp. London: The London Magazine, April 1963

8vo, Volume 3 No. 1, inscribed by Fleming to cover "Ernie - you always enjoy these cracks at me. This is a corker! Ian.", green wrappers, with accompanying compliments slip, light spotting, especially to rear cover

The first appearance in print of James Bond as written by someone other than Ian Fleming, Cyril Connolly's pastiche of Fleming's character was carefully overseen, and warmly approved of, by Ian. It was published in the London Magazine in April 1963. The magazine's editor, Alan Ross, sent Ian the galley sheets for approval, see lot 113.

Ernie Cuneo (1905-1988) was a lawyer, writer and wartime colleague of Fleming. He served in the O.S.S., F.B.I. and British Intelligence, he was one of Fleming's closest American friends. He appears in Diamonds Are Forever as Bond's eponymous ally, and Thunderball was dedicated to him, as Cuneo had written the earliest treatment of the screenplay that eventually developed into the novel.
