Berd Vay’e is a young company rooted in decades of experience celebrating haute jewelry and horology. The brainchild of two incredible artisans, these specialists have painstakingly sourced countless vintage watches, and components preserving these moments of history in precious Lucite.

The ‘Bright Idea’ is the company’s latest creation. It is a stunning lightbulb sculpture that encapsulates disassembled vintage movement parts from Swiss watches, giving them a second chance to be appreciated and admired. The inspiration behind this piece comes from the fact that the United States will have an official ban on incandescent lightbulbs starting this year. Incandescent lightbulbs have been providing light in American homes since the 1800s, when Thomas Edison patented the bulbs. Once banned by the government and replaced with LED technology, lightbulbs will be a symbol of a bygone era. Similarly, the disassembled watch movements, unable to be repaired, are a reminder of the mechanical precision and artistry of a past era of timekeeping.   

Adding to the luxury of this piece, the lightbulb electrical foot contact has a switch that projects light to the entire sculpture, illuminating the intricate details of the encased vintage watch parts and highlighting the beauty of the past. Lastly, each sculpture has a hand-crafted plaque made of pure silver in the shape of a gear, that depicts an actual watch component and has a unique serial number for each sculpture.
