The phrase "they say that an elephant never forgets" is often used to describe the remarkable memory of elephants. However, in this context, it serves as an introduction to the Crazy Jungle Hathi watch - an exceptional timepiece that is inspired by the ceremonial elephants used by royalty in India. The watch is named after the Hindi word for elephant and features a proud pachyderm with its trunk theatrically curved up in the air, symbolizing good luck.
Boucheron, the luxury jewelry and watch brand, has a long-standing connection with India dating back over a century when Louis Boucheron first traveled there in 1909. The Maharajah of Patiala commissioned Boucheron to create a panoply of jewelry in 1928, resulting in 149 stunning pieces that still influence the House's craftsmen to this day.
The Crazy Jungle Hathi watch is a celebration of this heritage and love of the Orient. The rotund shape of the elephant dominates the dial and overtakes the bezel, with its diamond-covered toes and trunk finding purchase on the lip of the watch case. The colorful blankets mix colored gems with golden pearls, undulating off the edge of the timepieces, while the "Crazy Seconds" module creates a spinning kaleidoscope of colors visible through delicate gold tear-drop-shaped apertures. The 3D starry skyline and more than 300 stones set into the dial create a sense of rich roundness and depth.
The watch features a bezel shadowing ring of white diamonds that fade into blue sapphires on the white gold version. Boucheron's iconic Pointes de Diamant motif subtly identifies the timepiece as a Boucheron creation, while the distinctive elliptical display window on the back reveals the GP 4000 movement with its customized rotor in the form of Boucheron's historic poinçon. The Crazy Jungle Hathi watch is truly a remarkable and unforgettable piece of craftsmanship.
