The Audemars Piguet frosted gold collection was launched in 2016 when the women’s Royal Oak series celebrated its 40th anniversary. As a tribute to Jacqueline Dimier who created the ladies’ Royal Oak back in 1976, Florentine jewelry designer Carolina Bucci decided to bring something new to the design and aesthetic.
As a fourth-generation jeweler from Florentine Bucci jewelry, Carolina dominated the gold hammering technique. By using a diamond-tipped tool to create numerous tiny indentations on the case, the result is a textured frosty surface that is not flashy but revolutionary as it has not been seen on any watch collections. However, the iconic brushed surfaces and polished bevels finishing have remained to complement the sought-after ice blue dial in the current watch.
A bold statement by Audemars Piguet, the frosted gold case is unexpectedly hard wearing and resilient to scratches, where the success of the technique has expanded to other Royal Oak collections and proven to be extremely popular.
