Audemars Piguet

Staying true to its ground-breaking ideas and designs, Audemars Piguet introduced in 1986 the first automatic-wound tourbillon movement, the very thin calibre 2870. However, perhaps the most striking feature of the present watch reference 25643BA was its daring dial. An aperture at 11 o'clock allows the wearer to admire the working of the tourbillon while also representing the sun, radiating its rays across the dial. The gilt dial contributes to this illusion and the juxtaposition with the vibrant ultramarine blue of the unusual oscillating weight winding the watch are a direct reference to ancient Egyptian relief carving and art with their reverence for the Sun.
