Often eclipsed by the Calatrava, and in fact referred to by many as Vacheron Constantin's Calatrava, the present lot is a beautiful example of reference 4217, cased in white gold and retaining strong proportions with crispy hallmarks.
With many dial variations, the production of the current reference is thought to have began in the 1940s and ceased around 1975 with white gold being the rarest material used for the reference. With a number 4 stamped inside the snap back, suggesting the case to have been supplied by iconic case maker Antoine Gerlach SA, based in Bassecourt, the present examples is kept in superb condition and will add a layer of complexity to any serious watch collection.
