The success of Panerai as a brand, in many ways, was due to the engagement and passion shared by the global community of enthusiasts and collectors known as ‘Paneristi’. To that end, the PAM00195 represents a then-revolutionary idea of a brand working with a group of collectors to create a special watch.
“They rewarded the Paneristis for their level of passion, and how they had actually grown the brand,” remarks Hammer, who recalls the introduction of this very special model. While today we take limited editions and collector-group watches as a regular part of the industry, this was a truly groundbreaking idea in the early 2000s. As with all 195 models, the caseback was engraved by Panerai at the factory for its owner. Hammer, ever the brand loyalist, ordered his directly from the historic Panerai boutique in Florence, who confirmed his order on official letterhead.
Complete with its original boxes, papers, and accessories, in addition to a custom made presentation box of burlwood marked ‘195 Hammer’ with the Panerai ‘OP’ logo gifted to him – and a small desktop model of the S.L.C. Miale Submarine.
