In 1998, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5059, alongside the reference 5050, as the only perpetual calendar wristwatches to feature center seconds since the ref. 2497 and 2438-1. Boasting a unique charm, the 36mm officer-style case houses an elegant white lacquered dial adorned with hand-painted black Roman numerals and a retrograde date indication.
This reference was produced in all four metals, with an estimated production run of 1200 to 1400 units before its discontinuation in 2006. It is believed that a mere 300 examples were ever produced with platinum cases, adding an extra layer of rarity and exclusivity to this distinguished timepiece. The present example, reference 5059P-001 from January 2007, is perhaps one of the last examples created before it was discontinued, making way for the new reference 5159.
