The importance of the name Le Roy in the world of horology is profound. Ferdinand Berthoud posthumously paid homage to Pierre Le Roy saying “...he was the most illustrious of the watchmakers to have honored or enriched France…” Charles Leroy founded the eponymous company in 1785, based at the prestigious Palais Royal in Paris, serving as the watchmaker to the King. Exceptional pieces such as the present lot produced in the workshops of the Palais-Royal was highly sought after. The present example is a rare and attractive triple calendar strut clock, featuring a large lapis lazuli case heighted by a diamond set scrolling foliate motif.
