In 1928, Gabrielle Chanel acquired a piece of land in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin to build her summer villa.Two years later and thanks to the architect Robert Streitz, La Pausa was built. It is very likely that Gabrielle Chanel was helped by Stéphane Boudin, decorator of the Maison Jansen, for the layout and decoration.

Until 1953, when she sold the villa, Gabrielle Chanel surrounded herself with friends such as Jean Cocteau, Valentine Hugo, Paul Iribe, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and the Duke of Westminster. The two pieces of furniture that we present come from the Villa La Pausa and were placed in the bathroom of Gabrielle Chanel. We can date them from 1940 at the latest, when Gabrielle Chanel was still in possession of the villa.

En 1928, Gabrielle Chanel fait l’acquisition d’un terrain à Roquebrune-Cap-Martin pour y faire construire sa villa d’été.

Deux ans plus tard et grâce à l’architecte Robert Streitz, La Pausa sort de terre.

Il est fort probable que Gabrielle Chanel ait été aidé par Stéphane Boudin, décorateur de la Maison Jansen, pour l’agencement et la décoration.

Gabrielle Chanel recevra jusqu’en 1953, année où elle vendra la villa, Jean Cocteau, Valentine Hugo, Paul Iribe, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso ou encore le Duc de Westminster. Les deux meubles que nous présentons proviennent de la Villa La Pausa et étaient placés dans la salle de bain de Gabrielle Chanel. Nous pouvons d’après la construction des meubles les dater au plus tard de 1940, période à laquelle Gabrielle Chanel était encore en possession de la villa.
