Inspired by the traditions of his homeland of Finland, lighting designer Paavo Tynell created dynamism and whimsy through his delicate handling of brass metalwork. The designer was known for his use of perforated motifs, channeling the visual effects of space and light in an unique approach to modern Scandinavian design. This technique is utilized in the Snowflake chandeliers produced in various iterations, as light diffuses through the brass bowl, capturing the essence of winter. Evocative of snowfall, the present work highlights Tynell’s inventiveness of light fixtures, as well as his romantic and lyrical approach to postwar lighting.
