A black-glazed sgraffiato meiping, Jin dynasty | 金 褐釉剔花卉紋梅瓶

A very similar meiping is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures in the Palace Museum. Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (I), Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 216, where it is noted that such vases were made in Shanxi province, possibly at the Datong or Hunyuan kilns. Examples of shards from these kiln sites were included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition Kiln Sites of Ancient China.
