A sancai-glazed figure of an equestrian, Tang dynasty | 唐 三彩騎馬俑

Compare a similar pottery figure from the National Palace Museum, Taipei, published in Zhe Linze, 'Jiqing renjian: Linian juanzeng qiwu tezhan [Exhibition of Works of Art throughout the Years]', Gugong wenwu yuekan [Monthly journal of the National Palace Museum], no. 334, Taipei, January 2011, fig. 2; and another with a musician, excavated in Luoyang, Henan County, 1954, now preserved in the Henan Museum, Zhengzhou, illustrated in Li Huiping, The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics Vol 6: Tang, Five Dynasties, Shanghai, 1999, pl. 89; a third example sold in our New York rooms, 19th September 2001, lot 95.
