the base inscribed in red with Chongzhen sannian hangchuan zhang shengyuan liande zhi zheng (Dedicated by Zhang Shengyuan of Hangchuan, during the third year of Chongzhen)


Length 68 cm, 26¾ in.

Compare two boxes of this type, the first depicting a scene of reception, and the other with illustration in the central panel, from the Florence and Herbert Irving collection and now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, exhibited at East Asian Lacquer from the Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1991-2, cat. nos 66-7.
