A design for a similar large-scale demi-lune sideboard appears in Plate 5 Fig.1 of Thomas Shearer's The Cabinet-Makers' London Book of Prices first published in 1788. A pair of comparable large-scale sideboards was in the collection of Junius Morgan III (d.1960), the eldest grandson of the banker and collector J. Pierpont Morgan, and his wife Louise (née Converse) at Saluation, their neo-Georgian estate on an island off the North Shore of Long Island built in the 1920s. Many items in Morgan's collection were inherited from his grandfather's vast holdings. The pair was sold with the rest of the contents of Salutation on the premises by Sotheby Parke Bernet, 29 May - 1 June 1974, lots 622 and 623.
