Freddie Mercury's turquoise lounge suit by Antony Price, Ivor Novello Awards, 1987, with Hawaiian shirt and espadrilles
A two-piece suit of pale turquoise slubbed linen, the double-breasted jacket with pointed lapels, two jetted pockets and two turquoise front fastening buttons, turquoise satin lining with one interior pocket, labelled ‘Antony Price’, the corresponding trousers with pleated front, one back pocket, the waistband with v-shape to back, lined in pale blue and cream nylon, unlabelled; a short-sleeved Hawaiian shirt printed with a pattern of green palm trees, foliage, blue sky and waterlilies, labelled ‘Hawaiian Klein’; and a pair of bright yellow canvas espadrilles, the moulded rubber soles marked ‘Cousu Main / Puerta’, size 42

Freddie is photographed wearing this, or an identical suit, dancing with Annie Lennox at the Ivor Novello Awards, 15 April 1987, and also with Roger Taylor and John Deacon holding their awards and with Freddie wearing a similar Hawaiian shirt to that included in this lot arriving at Queen’s party at Kensington Roof Gardens following their Wembley concert, July 1986.
