This statue is a smaller-sized model of the three-metre bronze statue that stands on the Place du Marché in Montreux, looking outwards to Lake Geneva. Both created by Czech sculptor Irena Sedlecká, the larger statue was publicly unveiled in 1996 shortly after the creation of this smaller model. Queen sought the serenity of Montreux for the recording of six of their studio albums, and Freddie also had a residence there alongside Garden Lodge in London. The larger-than-life sculpture was a donation from Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and other friends and family of Freddie to the city of Montreux, and remains a popular pilgrimage site for fans of Queen and of Freddie.
