Freddie Mercury’s worn 'Gold's Gym California' vest and other off stage wear
-A blue cotton vest with red trim printed with yellow lettering ‘Gold’s Gym California’ and in white with a caricature of a weightlifter, labelled inside ‘Gold’s Merchandise’ - this or an identical vest is photographed being worn by Freddie off stage during the A Kind Of Magic Tour, 1986; and
- a red ribbed cotton vest with white stitching trim printed in white ‘New York’, labelled inside ‘Hanes, S’; and
- a metallic silver bomber jacket embellished with several woven cloth patches including one black cloth patch embroidered in silver ‘NASA’ to left breast, a black, gold, silver and bronze ‘Apollo XIII Ex Luna Scientia..’ embroidered cloth patch to right arm and a black, red and silver ‘BD’ embroidered logo patch to left arm, with black knitted collar, cuffs and hem, two slip pockets, two button-fastening breast pockets, zip-fastening to front, padded black ‘silk’ lining, labelled inside ‘Grenoble Nyloprene, Styled By Briarcliff’

Gold’s Gym opened by Jim Gold at Venice Beach, California in 1965 was the first specialist health club of its time. It became known as "The Mecca of Bodybuilding" attracting clients such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and the world’s top body builders. In 1977 it secured its iconic status as the world’s most famous gym and centre for the culture of bodybuilding and physique in general when it featured as the primary location for the film ‘Pumping Iron’. Since then it has counted many notable Hollywood stars and famous sporting celebrities amongst its clientele. One of the first of its kind to start a franchise in 1980, Gold’s Gym is still revered as a remarkable pioneer of the global health and fitness industry.
