A collection of ephemera relating to his birthday parties, 1977-86

comprising:

i) Four unsent printed invitations to Freddie's birthday party at Country Cousin, 533 Kings Road SW10, with note 'Dress to Kill!', map to rear, Monday 5 September 1977, in Paperchase box

ii) Letter signed, from Jim Beach, enclosing a photocopy of the bar bill from Freddie's birthday at Hendersen's in Munich on 5 September 1985, with total cost DM 82,500.00, 9 September 1985, in envelope

iii) Two printed invitations to Freddie's silly hat-themed birthday party at Garden Lodge, with note 'please bring your silly hat with your invitation', 7 September 1986, in red envelope

iv) Printed invitation to Freddie Mercury & John Reid's birthday party at Pykes, Ibiza, 5 September 1987

Freddie's birthday parties have since become legend.

Freddie's cabaret party for his 31st birthday was attended by Divine, Elton John and Peter Straker (see photos in lot 59 and lot 186 for the sparkly lurex jacket he wore).

His black and white themed 39th birthday party was held in Munich at Hendersen's Club where he wore the now iconic military style jacket (lots 240 and 2214). Footage from the party was used in his 1985 single 'Living On My Own'.

For his 40th birthday the following year, Freddie held a silly hat birthday party in the garden at Garden Lodge (see photos in lot 59 and lot 2251 for the hats worn).

For his 41st birthday, Freddie celebrated at Pyke's in Ibiza. Run by Tony Pike, the hotel was a haven for Grace Jones, Boy George and Naomi Campbell. Wham filmed Club Tropicana there in 1983. Freddie flew 700 of his friends to the hotel, and the venue still holds a birthday party for him every year (see photos in lot 59 and lot 2274 for the shirt he wore).
