Rolex introduced the Day Date 118000 models in 2000 at Baselworld. Interestingly, the new reference did not mark a movement upgrade as it still used the COSC certified 3155 calibre with double quick-set first introduced in 1988 in the 18200. However, the 6-digit new reference introduced a new and heavier bracelet and clasp, making the precious model even more precious.

At the time, the Day Date was the only man’s Rolex watch that was made in series in platinum. This example further has a factory diamond-set bezel echoing the ice-blue diamond indexes Jubilee dial, which is typical of the production period.
