After the launch of the first Royal Oak, reference 5402, in 1972, Audemars Piguet decided to offer a slightly smaller diameter version.

This smart decision allowed more people to wear to wonderful creation of Gerald Genta as the 36mm diameter of the reference 4100 perfectly fit more wrist while preserving the appeal of the original design.

The watch was powered by the reliable automatic calibre 2123.

This example was originally sold in 1978 and captures the spirit and style of that time with a case and bracelet in stainless steel and yellow gold and a grey dial.
