Introduced in 2006 and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, Patek Philippe released the reference 5980 along with the reference 5711 and 5712 at Basel. These releases marked a new era for one of the brands most celebrated and coveted ranges. The 5980 represented the first time that the Nautilus was fitted with a chronograph complication, utilizing the brand's very first in-house self-winding chronograph cal. CH 28-520. Discarding the conventional chronograph dial layout, Patek Philipe instead introduced a simplified design using a co-axial subsidiary dial combining all registers into one.
The reference 5980 was offered in steel, pink gold and two-tone, but only the pink gold version was offered on a leather strap. The present lot is offered with its full set of accessories and comes with a brand new Patek Philippe rubber strap.
