In 1860 in Sonvilier, Switzerland, Louis-Ulysse Chopard established his workshop specialising in the production of high precision pocket watches. In 1920, the founder's grandson Paul-Andre Chopard moved the company to Geneva and through his high standard of quality, responsibility and perseverance guaranteed Chopard's success in the 20th century. In 1963 he sold his company to a German family, the Scheufeles, who had been in the jewellery and watch business for three generations. Karl and Karin Scheufele have orchestrated the company's development for more than 40 years and are still active in the firm today. In the last three decades Chopard has been very successful not only with their range of lady's and gentleman's wristwatches but also with fashionable jewellery lines such as 'Happy Diamonds', 'Casimir' and Happy Sport'.
Fully covered in diamonds, the present Happy Sport Chrono is an unusual piece that combines Chopard's achievements both in jewellery and horology. The watch itself includes approximately 23 carats of diamonds and almost 198 grams of white gold.
