The Charter for New York City signed by King James II for Andros


Comprising:


[James II, as the Duke of York]. True manuscript copy of a document describing the boundaries of the province of New York given to him by Charles II, including his appointment of Richard Nicolls as the first English colonial governor of the province, Whitehall, 2 April 1664 [but 18th century]. Folio (322 x 205 mm), 3 ½ pages, on paper, a bifolium.


James II, as the Duke of York. Manuscript document signed ("James" at foot) as Duke of York and Albany, appointing Major Edmund Andros Lieutenant and Governor of New York, counter-signed by York's secretary Sir John Werden. Windsor, 1 July 1674. Oblong folio (355 x 460 mm), on vellum, papered seal.


James II, as the Duke of York. Manuscript document signed ("James" at foot) as Duke of York, being "Instructions for Edmund Andros Esquire my Lieutenant Governor of Long Island, New York, & my adjacent Territories in America". Windsor, 1 July 1674. 6 pages, folio (349 x 230 mm), counter-signed and with an autograph passage re-written and signed by Sir John Werden (Secretary to James II), papered seal at head of first page.
