Description

The hinged textured bangle set with brilliant-cut diamonds within stylized star surrounds, inner circumference approximately 140mm, signed Buccellati.

Goldsmithing was and is a central foundation of the Buccellati brand. Its founder Mario Buccellati was known as 'The Prince of Goldsmiths' having initially trained as an apprentice with the renowned Beltrami & Besnati.

Tullio Gramantieri once wrote for the magazine Vita Artistica in 1926, stating 'This superiority of Buccellati, stemming from having brought goldsmithery into the field of art, was immediately sense by the crowd that collected his pieces with ever growing enthusiasm, and by a vast host of jewelers who, still seek to emulate him, however without succeeding in producing anything but banal and incorrect imitations - moreover rather easily recognisable.'

This piece is an example of the Buccellati's rigato engraving technique where a burin is used to engrave fine parallel lines into the metal surface. The same exact angle must be used with each line in order to achieve the silky effect on the piece.
