Kipling, Rudyard

Just So Stories for Little Children. London: Macmillan And Co., 1902

4to. Half-title, historiated initials and 22 plates by the author; short closed marginal tear to title. Original red cloth pictorially printed in black and white with animal motif also after Kipling; rubbing to spine with loss of lettering, endpapers foxed, minor spotting to fore-edge. Housed in a custom half-morocco and cloth-covered board clamshell case.

First edition. A lovely copy of Kipling’s perennially popular collection of tales.

Kipling's timeless stories for children were originally written for his daughter Josephine and published individually in serial form from 1897 onwards. Just So Stories is the only work of the author's that he also illustrated — and in a quite charming and proficient fashion.
