Hawthorne, Nathaniel

The Scarlet Letter, A Romance. Boston: Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1850

8vo. Title-page printed in red and black, with "reduplicate" instead of "repudiate" on p. 21, line 20, final blank present; with March 1 publisher's advertisements. Original brown cloth decoratively ruled and stamped in blind, spine gilt-lettered, cream endpapers; restoration at spine ends, but for the ads being foxed, the text is unusually clean. Half morocco box.

First edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne's iconic tale of guilt and redemption set in Puritan Massachusetts.
